A windowsill ozone generator solves a problem most portable ozone machines can’t address. The diminishing supply of oxygen to create ozone as the available supply of oxygen in the air is being converted into ozone.
Picture a cloud of ozone forming near a tabletop ozone generator. No more oxygen! All ozone. Do you know what that means? Your ozone generator, which you mistakenly thought generated ozone, is no longer creating ozone! You see, ozone generators CONVERT the available oxygen in the air into ozone. And when that supply of oxygen is used up, so is your ability to create higher and higher concentrations of ozone.
Ozone reverts back to oxygen in about 40 minutes. Then the generator can create more ozone. But that’s for amateurs who only need 1-2 ppm of ozone. The pros need 5-10-20 ppm to remediate smoke and mold. And that’s why they get paid the big bucks. And guess what? The pros use blowers outside of the structure to feed their ozone machines fresh air! So do our customers.
Why Outside Air Makes a Difference
A window sill unit brings outdoor air into the generator through an intake tube or window-mounted arrangement. That fresh air contains the oxygen you need to create higher and higher concentrations of ozone to do the heavy lifting on tough odors or mold. More oxygen gives a quality quartz tube ozone generator (all we sell) the building material it needs to get’r done. The result is not magic. It is simply better chemistry and more consistent production.
Humidity is the other issue. Moisture makes ceramic plate ozone generation less efficient and can be hard on cheap components. This is where marketplace machines with ceramic plates start showing their true colors.
A well-built quartz-tube generator is designed for high-concentration shock treatments. Ceramic plates? Not so much.
The Setup Matters More Than the Sales Pitch
A windowsill setup should be simple, but it should not be sloppy. The goal is to feed outdoor air to the machine and direct ozone into the treatment area while limiting outdoor air leaks that dilute the ozone concentration.
Place your ForeverOzone windowsill ozone generator on the window sill next to a cracked window. We have two types. A 15g model (good for spaces up to 1500 sq ft) that includes a fan and two units, 30 and 60 grams (for areas 3000 to 6000 sq ft, think office building) that require a blower and HVAC tube (Costs $175). Close the window around a fitted panel made out of cardboard or a 1/4″ piece of wood panel. You are not building a spacecraft, but leaving a five-inch gap in the window for air to escape defeats the purpose. Keep rain out of the equipment and do not route tubing where it will kink, get pinched, or become a trip hazard when using a 12″ blower / HVAC tube.
Open all of the doors in the structure. Run ceiling fans and the HVAC fan if the structure has it. If it’s summertime. Do this early in the morning at the crack of dawn and run the AC system. The colder the better.
Before treatment, remove obvious sources of odor whenever possible. Throw away smoke-soaked trash, wash contaminated textiles, extract dirty carpet, clean pet urine, dry wet materials, and address active moisture intrusion. Ozone can react with odor-causing compounds, but it is not a substitute for cleaning, demolition, or fixing a roof leak. Anyone selling it that way is selling hope in a plastic box. That’s why the pros get the big bucks. They remove all that smoke- or mold-damaged “crap” first.
Shock Treatment Means Nobody Is Inside
This is the line that needs to stay bold: ozone shock treatment is for unoccupied spaces. People, pets, plants, and animals must be out of the treatment area. Do not run ozone around occupants as a daily air purifier. Do not sit in the room to “see if it is working.” If you can smell a strong ozone smell, that is not a wellness experience.
Use Fresh Air, But Do Not Ignore the Job
Just remember that using the right machine is only one part of the job. Clean first. Remove the source. Seal and stage the area intelligently. Run treatment only in empty spaces, then allow adequate decay and ventilation time. When the odor problem is real, that kind of disciplined setup beats another scented spray every time. Better yet.
