About Forever Ozone

Mike Franco, founder of Forever Ozone
Mike Franco

Hi, I’m Mike Franco. I’ve worked in indoor air since 1997, and I’ve sold air cleaning products since 2002.

My Path

  • 1997–2002: Indoor air testing for an environmental engineering company, mostly insurance cases involving mold or “sick home” complaints. I became IAQ (indoor air quality) certified in the late 1990s.
  • 2002: NeoTec Inc., Las Vegas, my first business, selling ionizers online (archived 2003 site).
  • 2003–2007: Air Purifiers Superstore, my own retail store in Henderson, Nevada.
  • 2005: Ionic Zone, an ionizer of my own design.
  • 2010: Ozone Generator USA LLC and the “bare bones” ozone machine, sold under the ForeverOzone name.
  • 2014: Forever Ozone, with foreverozone.com becoming our main store.

Why I Started Forever Ozone

I spent years selling ionizers, air purifiers and indoor air quality testing equipment. I watched allergy customers stay frustrated, and the filters I sold them weren’t solving the problem.

Then I found the research. The major dust mite allergen, Der p 1, is a cysteine protease (a papain-family digestive enzyme of about 24 to 25 kilodaltons) made in the mite’s gut and excreted in its fecal pellets.[1][2][3] In mite cultures, over ninety-five percent of it is found in those pellets,[4] each about ten to forty microns across and carrying roughly 0.2 nanograms of allergen.[5][7] It isn’t just an inert protein. It’s an active enzyme that, in lab studies, cleaves immune-cell receptors (CD23 and CD25) and breaks down the tight junctions that hold airway lining cells together.[1][3][7] StatPearls reports that ninety-seven percent of people with dust mite allergy are sensitized to it.[1] A second allergen, Der p 23, identified in 2013, coats the outside of those same pellets.[5]

A filter can only catch the pellets that happen to float past it. Most of them sit in mattresses, carpets, couches and curtains. Ozone gas reaches into those fabrics during a shock treatment of an empty space. Researchers note that Der p 1 loses its enzyme activity permanently when it is oxidized,[7] and a laboratory study found that ozone fumigation killed dust mites and cut measured Der p 1 by roughly half.[6] That’s why I went into the ozone business in 2010, and in 2014 I started Forever Ozone.

From Indoor Air Quality to Ozone

The more homes I tested over the years, the more one thing kept showing up: dust mite waste is one of the most important indoor allergens.[2] It lives deep in bedding and furnishings, places no filter reaches. For me, that’s what moved me from air testing to ozone shock treatment of empty spaces. (More in How to Kill Dust Mites with Ozone.)

My Best Free Air Tip

In years of particle-count testing, I saw the same thing again and again: tabletop air purifiers only clean the air within a few feet of the unit. Stand five feet away with a particle counter and the readings stay high. The machine is scrubbing its own bubble, not your room. That’s why a whole-house approach beats any portable purifier: run your HVAC fan continuously with a MERV 11 or 12 filter, swap it every three weeks, and you get whole-home filtration for about five dollars a filter. Details in HEPA Air Purifiers Are a Waste of Money.

How the Bare Bones Machine Started

My first ozone business was reselling imported ozone machines on Amazon. They cost me about $100 wholesale, and I sold them for $200 to $300. Then the returns started. Over 70% of them failed within a year, and customers sent them back because the machine wouldn’t turn on.

So I started taking them apart. The problem was the on-off switch and timer: each had a thin copper strip inside that corroded and stopped conducting. The parts that actually make ozone, the transformer and the ozone plate, were still good.

To stay in business, I tried something simple. In 2010 I mounted the transformer and ozone plate on a solid oak board, put the wiring in an electrical box, and sold it for $79 as a “bare bones” ozone machine under the name Ozone Generator USA LLC, with our ForeverOzone line of machines (see the archived 2010 sites: 4o3.us, April 2010 and ozonegeneratormachines.com). No switch or timer to fail, and the money went into the part that does the work. It sold very well on Amazon and on my own site for years, and in 2014 foreverozone.com became our main store. Eventually overseas factories started making their own versions of the concept: a transformer with a power cord.

Why We Only Sell Quartz Tube

Around 2017 I looked closer at the ceramic plates themselves. Their electrodes are metal coatings deposited on the ceramic. One ozone generator plate patent describes layers of nickel chromium, palladium, copper and gold or silver, tinned with lead-tin solder, and notes that without that solder the metals can vaporize or sputter off in the heat of the corona. I didn’t want metal particles coming off the part of a machine that’s meant to clean a space.

So I had the manufacturer build a different ozone module for me: a quartz tube with stainless steel mesh, based on the principle Nikola Tesla invented over a century ago. It’s nano-metal-free, and I’ve been the exclusive seller of that module ever since.

Quartz is ozone-proof, so the tube doesn’t wear out the way plates do. That’s where our name comes from: Forever Ozone.

Our Windowsill units are fed fresh outside air, which produces higher ozone output than a unit breathing the same stale room air. See Quartz Tube vs Ceramic Plate Ozone Generators.

What We Stand For

  • Shock treatments of unoccupied spaces only. People, pets and plants stay out during treatment, and the space airs out before anyone returns. Ozone is never for breathing.
  • No health or medical claims. We tell you what ozone does well and how to use it safely.
  • About 20,000 customers since 2010.
  • Free expert advice with every purchase, from setup and run time to airing out.
  • Online-only, shipping across the US, including California. Every buyer, anywhere, including California, is entitled to a 30-minute safety consultation with me, included with purchase. It’s up to you whether to call.
